PROPORTION

 RATIO AND PROPORTION

In this section, we are going to study what a ratio and a proportion are, what a percentage is, and what are they used for.

Watch the next videos and answer the questions you'll find them below.

Ratio
  • What is a ratio?  Give an  example different than the video.
  • How many ways are there of giving  a ratio? Use the  previous  example to explain.
  • When do we have a part to part ratio? And a part to total ratio? Use the previous example to explain. Is a part to total ratio a new concept or have you  heard about it before?

  • What is a proportion? Give two examples.
  • What are means and extremes in a proportion? What  are  the means and extremes in the previous two examples?
  • Which rule is verified in a proportion? What does this rule remember you of? Give three examples.
  • Which of these ratios form a proportion? 3/4, 7/2, 6/8, 14/4? Explain why.

Are you sure you understood the concepts  of ratio and proportion?  Watch the next video to be sure:

Ratio and proportion
  • How can you find an unknown term in a proportion using crossed products? Give four differents examples.
  •  Write the examples the video uses to test you at the end and solve them.

In the next video you will find an equation proposed as a proportion, and after watching the video you will know how to solve this equation.

PERCENT

Percent is a useful mathematic operation frequently used in daily life. Pay attention to these videos so nobody tricks you!

What is a percent?
  • Which three keywords can we find in a percent?
  • What three different problems can we solve with percentages?
  • How could you figure out a percent when you know the part and the total? How many different ways could you do it?
  • What is a percent?

Percent of a number

  • What does it really mean to find a percent of a number?
  • How many ways of calculating the percent of a number does the video show? Give two examples of each way.
